About the job
Overstory is hiring a Staff Data Engineer to architect and evolve the data platform for large-scale geospatial and temporal data. You will lead system design, drive a shift toward service-oriented architecture, and build event-driven workflows. This is a remote role based in the Netherlands.
What you will do
- Architect and evolve the orchestration layer for data pipelines
- Design and maintain production data pipelines for large-scale geospatial and temporal data
- Lead system design work across the data platform
- Drive shift toward service-oriented architecture
- Build event-driven workflows
- Establish observability, testing, and data quality frameworks
What you bring
- 10+ years designing and building production-grade data pipelines and systems
- Deep hands-on experience with Dagster or comparable orchestration tools
- Proven track record building and operating data pipelines at scale
- Experience preparing systems for high demand with testability and scalability
- Strong system design skills
- Practical experience designing service-oriented architecture
Nice to have
- Comfort working with geospatial data
- Experience building data pipelines for ML training and inference
- Experience with analytics engineering tooling and BigQuery
- Infrastructure-as-code experience
- Background in remote sensing, forestry, or utility sector
